Getting around in Mission Beach
Mission Beach is a delightful coastal community of around 20klm set up against the Coral Sea and with wet tropics rainforest at the West.
Being such a spread out community you would think that a car was necessary to get around, but the answer to this would have to be NO.
Trans North runs the village bus service which operates every day EXCEPT Sunday and Public Holidays and goes from one end of the village to the other every hour and for a small cost of around $2 in 2006, and stops right outside the cottages. There is also a 10 trip bus ticket available and a day rover, just ask the driver. The service finishes around 6.pm.
There is Le Tour Bikes, situated about 5 minutes bus ride from the cottages which hires out adult and children’s bikes and motorised scooters by the hour, half day and full day. Details can be obtained by phoning 07 40689553.
Sugarland Car rentals are situated here in Mission Beach around 5 minutes bus ride from the cottages and for an excursion to the Tablelands for the day, they are available for 1 day hire. Contact Roger and Cherelle at the Cottages and they will book it for you as it may be too late once you are here. They can organise baby seats and boosters if required as well. There is no additional charge by booking with them.
Mission Beach Taxi service is available 24 hours per day and operates from Mission Beach about 2 minutes from the cottages. They will pick you up at night and drop you back to the cottages if required, after a meal in one of the many restaurants as the bus finishes around 6pm.
Very easy here just to walk as well, as Mission Beach is quite flat and easy to connect to each of the 5 villages that make up Mission Beach by taking the beach.
For those wishing to just take it easy, Mission Beach has beaches, rainforest, a great pool area at Cassawong Cottages and several places to get a well earned Massage to ease those weary overworked muscles once you arrive.
Visit the Artists Gallery, or sit in one of the many cafes and sip a coffee as you watch the world go by or just sit in the garden of your own cottages and watch the myriad of birds and butterflies. So peaceful!
